Why Accurate Birth Time Matters

In Jyotish, accurate birth time is very important because it determines the Ascendant, also called the Lagna.

The Lagna is the sign rising on the eastern horizon at the moment of birth. It becomes the starting point of the birth chart. Because of this, even if the birth date and place are correct, an incorrect birth time can change how the chart is read.

The Lagna usually changes every approximately 2 hours. If the birth time is inaccurate, the whole chart structure may shift.

Why Minutes Can Also Matter

Sometimes even a few minutes’ difference can be important.

This is because the degrees of the Lagna and planets are constantly moving. These degrees are used for more precise calculations, including nakshatras, divisional charts, dasha timing, and other tools used for deeper interpretation.

So the more accurate the birth time is, the more precise the reading can be.

If You Are Unsure About Your Birth Time

If your birth time is approximate, please mention it before the consultation.

For example:

  • exact time from birth record
  • time told by parents or family
  • approximate time, such as “around sunrise” or “between 6–7 AM”
  • completely unknown time

This helps to choose the right method for the reading.

If Birth Time Is Unknown

If the birth time is not known and cannot be found, the reading can still be done using other approaches, such as the Moon chart.

However, for a more precise reading, a birth time rectification session is recommended.

Birth time rectification is a separate consultation in which we explore possible birth times by examining important life events, personal patterns, and key turning points. The purpose is to narrow down the most likely birth time before going into a deeper Jyotish reading.

If you do not know your exact birth time, please contact me before booking so we can decide whether rectification is needed.
